Now it seems <a href=\"http:\/\/abqjournal.com\/elex\/246845elex10-22-04.htm\">we&#8217;re seeing interface problems with touchscreen voting.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I expect the voting officials are right that this is a case of &#8220;user error&#8221; \u2014 that&#8217;s what we call it in our industry when the interface designer didn&#8217;t do enough of a good job and now wants to blame someone else. Having watched technologically-minded researchers get confused when they accidentally trigger our giant presentation touchscreen at work, it doesn&#8217;t surprise me much either. Unfortunately, with all the cases of actual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/mld\/mercurynews\/news\/politics\/9989544.htm?1c\">voter-registration fraud<\/a>, invalid and highly-suspicious <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sptimes.com\/2004\/07\/11\/State\/Florida_scraps_felon_.shtml\">selctive purging of voters from the rolls<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackboxvoting.org\/?q=node\/view\/78\">back doors secretly coded into official vote-counting software<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedom-to-tinker.com\/archives\/000700.html\">laughable &#8220;security&#8221; protocols in voting machines<\/a> these voters (Democrat <em>and<\/em> Republican) are right to be skeptical.
